Nikki Glaser apologized to Briel Adams-Wheatley, a transgender influencer who was born without limbs, after making her the subject of a “dumb” joke at a comedy show.
Adams-Wheatley, 27, took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday, August 24, to share a screenshot of a DM she received from a fan who informed her about Glaser’s joke while on stage in Ridgefield, Washington, over the weekend.
“Were you aware you are a topic in Nikki Glaser’s current set?” the fan asked the content creator. “I didn’t like the jokes. Love your content, thought you should be aware.”
Adams-Wheatley responded, “Oh no. What were the jokes she made about me?”
The fan told Adams-Wheatley that Glaser, 42, gave her “lots of compliments” before quipping that the internet personality already had a “hard life with no limbs but still decided to transition.” Glaser then allegedly joked that Adams-Wheatley “had to” transition because she “rubbed [her] penis off with the way [she dragged herself] across the room.”
Adams-Wheatley tagged Glaser in the post and wrote, “Why are you making comments about what is or is not in my pants?”
She added, “I bought tickets for your show in November and now I’m really rethinking my plans.”
Hours later, Adams-Wheatley shared another screenshot of a DM from Glaser herself.
“Hey girl. I’m so sorry this got back to you like this,” Glaser purportedly wrote. “I should have reached out to you. I never meant to hurt your feelings at all. This is not an accurate portrayal of the joke, but I’m sure it’s still not fun to hear you’re in my act.”
She continued, “I HATE anti trans jokes of all kinds, and to think I may have added to that rhetoric is disgusting to me. I make sure to say in the joke multiple times, ‘I love her, please follow her, she’s so f***ing funny and cool.’ (Not that that takes away from anything if you were offended by it.)”
Glaser concluded, “But I want you to know my intent. it’s a dumb joke and I will lose it immediately. I love you and I’m so sorry!”
Adams-Wheatley is a beauty influencer, motivational speaker and digital creator who often shares adaptive makeup tutorials and videos about her day-to-day life. She has 1.4 million followers on Instagram and 6 million followers on TikTok.
“When I first started posting, I let everything affect me,” she told People in March. “I’d be crying in the bathroom over comments. But eventually, I realized you have to protect yourself mentally. Now I’m like, ‘Thanks — you’re paying my bills.’”
Adams-Wheatley continued, “If I could talk to my younger self, I’d say it’s just not that deep. People are either going to love you or hate you, but it doesn’t need to make or break you. You decide what makes or breaks you.”
