Cue the wedding bells! Pippa Middleton is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, James Matthews, Us Weekly can confirm.
"Miss Pippa Middleton and Mr James Matthews are delighted to announce they became engaged on Sunday, July 17 and plan to marry next year," the pair said in a statement. Pippa's father, Michael Middleton, told the Press Association that he is "absolutely thrilled" for the pair and that the future spouses are a "wonderful couple."
According to veteran royal reporter Richard Kay, who was first to break the news on the Daily Mail on Monday, July 18, Kate Middleton’s younger sister said yes to Matthews last weekend while on vacation in the Lake District of northwest England.
The Celebrate author was “completely and totally surprised,” the Daily Mail reports, adding that Matthews asked Pippa's father, Mike, for permission. “Mike and Carole Middleton are very happy,” the report states. “They like James and they are sure he will make Pippa very happy.”
Middleton — who made headlines by working a form-fitting white gown at Duchess Kate and William’s own 2011 nuptials — sparked rumors of an engagement after she stepped out on Monday, July 18, covering her ring finger.
The 32-year-old noticeably kept her left hand hidden as she made an appearance in a floral L.K. Bennett gown at a gala for the British Heart Foundation.
Pippa and Matthews, who runs Eden Rock Capital Management, first stepped out together in 2012 following Pippa’s split from Nico Jackson. The duo have since vacationed with Pippa’s family in St. Barts and Sweden, where they both participated in a grueling 47-mile long swim-run this past September.
The palace has yet to address the reports.
