Presley Gerber’s autopsy is complete following his death at the age of 27, Us can confirm.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that Gerber’s body is “ready for release,” according to records viewed by Us on Monday, September 21.
Gerber’s cause of death, however, has not been revealed. Instead, the medical examiner noted that the determination has been “deferred” for now.
The medical examiner’s office noted in a press release on Monday that it is in the “early stages of investigating” Gerber’s death and “limited information is currently available.”
“A deputy medical examiner performed an examination today and the cause and manner of death have been deferred, which means additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination,” the statement read. “Due to the ongoing death investigation, the DME cannot disclose what testing and/or studies were requested. Deferred cases can take a few months before a cause of death is determined.”
The quick autopsy update comes after Us confirmed on Sunday, September 20, that Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber’s only son died at the age of 27. (The couple also share daughter Kaia Gerber.)
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” Presley’s family said in a statement at the time.
The L.A. medical examiner previously confirmed that Presley died while at a rehab facility.
The Santa Monica Police Department, meanwhile, told Us that officers responded to a call regarding a possible overdose at 9:35 a.m. local time on Sunday. Upon arrival, authorities found an unresponsive adult male.
“The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner has identified the individual as Presley Gerber, 27,” the statement read. “SMPD detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose. At this time, there is no indication of foul play. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.”
Prior to his death, Presley was open about his mental health struggles and highs and lows with addiction.
“Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” Presley shared during a 2023 appearance on the “Studio 22” podcast.
The model added, “It’s a huge part of my life. It’s a 24/7 job and there’s so much to it. That’s what I really want to do — help people get out of whether you’re depressed [or] struggling with something that’s having a negative effect on your body. … What I hope I can do is have made the mistakes for some other people, so they don’t have to make the same mistakes that I made.”
In December 2025, Presley shared in an Instagram video series that he had used a number of medications — including Buprenorphine, Xanax and Valium — to treat “panic attacks.”
Presley explained in March that he was undergoing another form of treatment, Ibogaine, to try and get his health back on track.
“Pre Ibogaine Flood Dose — quiet moment before everything changed. I was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this (helps to not go into the situations you do that get ya there, but that’s life sometimes),” he wrote via Instagram. “Letting go of control didn’t come easy, but I trusted there was something bigger than me guiding it. I knew why I was there. I faced what I had been running from, and somewhere in all of it, I started finding my way back to myself 🤍…. We shall see…. Praying it’s the last time I have to come back.”
Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive alkaloid derived from the root of Tabernanthe iboga, a shrub native to Central Africa, which has been used in treating substance use disorders, particularly opioid and alcohol dependence, according to the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
