A rare look into a royal’s final wishes. It’s been almost 18 years since Princess Diana’s tragic death at age 36, and now for the first time, the late royal’s will has been revealed, thanks to a new British site called Probate Search.
For a subscription fee of $15, those interested can find the contents of the wills of many famous Brits, including Winston Churchill, author George Orwell, and Princess Diana.
The Today show noted that the mother of two left close to $30 million to her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. She also instructed that her mother, Frances Shand Kydd, should be consulted about the boys’ education in the event of her death.
“She wanted to make sure [her children] were showered with love,” Robert Jobson, author of The New Royal Family, told the Today show. “That’s something she really agonized over when she split from Prince Charles. I think this will reflects that.”
Princess Diana and Prince Charles officially divorced in August 1996, following his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles. In the wake of her death, Diana also left $80,000 tax-free dollars to her butler and confidant Paul Burrell.
