Actor Erik von Detten is being sued for alleged fraud and elder abuse in a shocking new lawsuit.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, October 20, Sheila Greenberg, 85, and Norman Greenberg, 97, allege they suffered $900,000 in damages working with the The Princess Diaries actor and Rosland Capital, a company that buys and sells precious metals.

The Greenbergs allege that the organization, which allegedly went bankrupt after the lawsuit was filed, tried to exploit their financial fears by selling them on the stability of gold.

Court documents obtained by the outlet claim the Greenbergs placed two orders for around $1 million worth of Lady Liberty gold coins. The couple also allege that Von Detten spent another $1 million of their money on more coins.

After the purchase, the couple claim the coins weren’t sent to them, but were instead sent to some sort of warehouse for storage.

The couple allegedly learned the coins they purchased weren’t worth what they spent and had been marked up with a huge premium. They allege to have invested around $2.1 million, but the coins were only worth $1.3 million, TMZ reported.

As part of the lawsuit, the couple is hoping to recover their losses and receive an additional sum for punitive damages.

Us has reached out to von Detten’s rep and the Greenbergs’ attorney for comment.

Von Detten’s acting career began in 1992 when he had a 55-episode run on the Days of Our Lives soap opera.

He went on to secure roles in Toy Story, the 1998 Disney Channel original movie Brink!, and the Disney Channel series So Weird.

One of his most memorable roles was appearing in The Princess Diaries as Mia Thermopolis’ (Anne Hathaway) crush, Josh Bryant.

“I knew going into it that it was going to be a proper film with director Garry Marshall, Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, etc,” von Detten told E! News in March 2021. “But when I went to the premiere and actually saw the finished product, I was like, ‘Wow, this is a really solid film. This is going to be timeless.’”

He continued, “You would think that it would enhance my dating game to have that on my resume, but no. Girls would definitely want to wait a few extra dates just to make sure I wasn’t really that guy.”

Although he landed a role in the 2024 Lifetime movie My Acting Coach Nightmare, court documents state von Detten began working with Rosland Capital in 2018.
