Ray J just took an L in his legal battle with ex Kim Kardashian and her mom, Kris Jenner.
According to court documents obtained by Us and filed on Wednesday, August 12, a Los Angeles judge denied the musician’s motion to get their defamation lawsuit against him thrown out.
Ray J, 45, whose real name is William Ray Norwood Jr., was sued by the mother-daughter duo in October 2025. Kardashian, 45, and Jenner, 70, claimed that he made public statements about them that were defamatory and painted them in a false light when he accused them of being under investigation for racketeering and alleged, “It’s worse than Diddy.”
They claimed he stated the allegations on two occasions: to a news outlet and on his Twitch Stream, per the court documents.
Ray J fought back against their lawsuit, alleging he made “hypothetical statements.” The singer also claimed, “The statements he made during the Twitch Stream were comments that he believed he was making to himself, off camera.”
Ray J alleged that his comments about Kardashian and Jenner would not be offensive to a reasonable person — however, the judge disagreed.
After reviewing his arguments and the evidence provided by the SKIMS mogul and her momager, the judge denied Ray J’s request to have their lawsuit dismissed. (TMZ was first to break the news.)
“The statements of the Defendant can reasonably be interpreted as charging Plaintiffs with racketeering, which of course is a crime,” the judge’s response read. “A reasonable person would be offended by a false accusation that they had committed a crime. On this record, there is evidence sufficient to support a finding that Defendant’s statements were offensive to a reasonable person.”
“The Court DENIES the special motion to strike filed by Defendant Willie Ray Norwood, Jr.,” the filing concluded.
Ray J will get his day in court against Kardashian and Jenner over the defamation allegations — but he’ll have to wait. The judge set a trial date for March 6, 2028.Us reached out to all parties’ attorneys for comment.
In response to the judge’s decision, Ray J’s lawyer Howard King tells Us, “We will promptly appeal the ruling which failed to recognize Ray J’s first amendment right to publish his opinion about the despicable behavior of Kim Kardashian. The appeal freezes the proceedings so it is unlikely there will be a trial anytime soon or ever.”
This isn’t Ray J’s only legal battle with Kardashian and Jenner. The case involving his infamous sex tape with Kardashian is still pending.
As Us previously reported, he countersued the pair in October 2025, alleging Kardashian and Jenner breached a confidential 2023 deal over the tape. Ray J also alleged they agreed to pay him $6 million in exchange for his silence.
He claimed they broke that agreement by talking about the footage on their Hulu reality show, The Kardashians, but Kardashian and Jenner denied his allegations.
“His claim that I had a plan with my mother and others to release a sex tape, defraud the public and file a ‘fake’ lawsuit against the porn company that released it to ‘create buzz’ is a lie,” Kardashian said in her declaration at the time.
Jenner also fired back in legal documents, noting, “As a mother, the notion that I orchestrated or produced sex tapes involving my daughter, or was in any way involved in the creation or distribution of any sex tapes, is not only entirely untrue but deeply offensive and harmful and has haunted me for decades.”
She added she was “absolutely heartbroken, crushed and devastated as a mother to see my daughter in this situation where her most intimate and private moments were exposed to the world.”
