Reese Witherspoon is one tough cookie on-screen and off, but even she's crumbled before. The Wild star, 38, opened up to Nylon about a hard time in her life and how she snapped out of it.
"I lay on my kitchen floor and cried a lot," Witherspoon spilled. Though she didn't name the specific hardship, the Oscar winner went through a divorce in 2006, ending her seven-year marriage to first husband Ryan Phillippe. The Lincoln Lawyer actor is the father of Witherspoon's oldest children Ava, 15, and Deacon, 11.
"I think at a certain point you just wake up and you're like 'Okay, I don't want to feel like this anymore," the Inherent Vice actress continued. "You figure your own s–t out… No one's going to figure it out for you."
Witherspoon found love again after her painful split from Phillippe, now 40, and her subsequent two-year relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, when she started dating talent agent Jim Toth in 2010. Four months after getting engaged, the couple wed in March 2011. The Legally Blonde star welcomed her third child, son Tennessee, 2, with Toth in September 2012.
"You can't apologize for being a human being," Witherspoon added of her low points. "We all feel weak sometimes, sad and distraught, lost."
The Louisiana-born blonde has spoken about how hard her divorce was for her in the past.
"There are things in my life that are hard to reconcile, like divorce," she told Parade in 2008. "Sometimes it is very difficult to make sense of how it could possibly happen. Laying blame is so easy. I don't have time for hate or negativity in my life. There's no room for it. When you make wrong choices, you have to take responsibility for them: 'What part of this do I own?'"
