Love you to the Moonie and back. Reese Witherspoon revealed on Friday, March 11, that Bruiser — her on-screen pet Chihuahua from her smash 2001 movie Legally Blonde — has died.
“With a sad heart, I have to let all the #LegallyBlonde fans know that Bruiser Woods (also known as Moonie) passed away yesterday,” Witherspoon, 39, shared on Instagram, alongside a movie still of her character, Elle Woods, clutching the colorfully dressed puppy. “He was a sweet little Chihuahua who was very loved. I will never forget all the days we spent together … I’m sure his tail is wagging in the sky. Sending love to his trainer, the wonderful @tailsticks #RIPBruiser.”
According to TMZ, Bruiser was 18 years old, which meant he had a very full life in doggy years. The rescue pooch was also supposedly close pals with the Taco Bell Chihuahua, Gidget, who died in 2009.
In December 2010, Witherspoon memorably reunited with Moonie when she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In her speech, the Oscar winner acknowledged her pawed accomplice and his presence at the ceremony. “My very, very famous costar Bruiser: I mean, he came all the way out of his kennel,” she said. “He’s a very busy working dog and he managed to show up today.”
