If Reese Witherspoon is still reeling from her arrest and subsequent jail time in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday, April 19, she tried hard not to show it at Sunday's premiere of her film Mud in New York City. The Oscar winner, 37, put on a brave face at Manhattan's Museum of Modern Art, even flashing a tiny (though pursed) smile for photographers on the red carpet. See more pictures from the premiere.
Dressed in a short black sheath by Saint Laurent and with her newly brunette locks in loose waves around her shoulders, Witherspoon appeared mostly unfazed, if slightly less cheerful than usual, just hours after news broke of her run-in with the law. As Us Weekly reported earlier, the Devil's Knot star and her husband, CAA agent Jim Toth, were arrested and briefly jailed shortly after midnight on Friday.
According to a police report obtained by Variety, which first reported the arrests, an officer in Atlanta pulled the couple over when their Ford Fusion started weaving into oncoming traffic. Toth, 41, allegedly blew a .139 on a Breathalyzer test and was handcuffed on the scene. His wife was taken into custody as well, for repeatedly disobeying instructions from the arresting officer. She faces a charge of disorderly conduct. (See her mugshot.)
"Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer," Variety quotes the police report as saying. "I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet."
The couple were booked at a nearby station and then released at around 3:30 a.m. ET. A court appearance was scheduled for April 22, but sources say they're requesting that date be postponed while Witherspoon promotes Mud in New York City.
