Like a Virgin? At age 19, Rob Lowe did not want to dance with Madonna; In fact, he wanted to sleep with the Material Girl, he shares in an excerpt posted from his new memoir, Love Life — but he totally blew his chances!
Sharing a passage form his new tell-all with the New York Post on Thursday, March 13, the former teen heartthrob reveals that he first met Madonna, now 55, back in 1984.
"She was cute and she was young and she was single, and so I sat front-row… she was a revelation," Lowe wrote of encountering the newly-branded pop superstar, then 25, after a concert in L.A. "'Madonna would like to see you backstage,' a security guard said as the house lights came up."
"She had flawless skin and eyes that imparted secrets," Lowe confessed in his book. "She asked what movie I was working on and so I told her a little about St. Elmo's Fire, which I had just finished. 'I play the bad boy,' I said. Madonna just smiled. She seemed to like that."
Months after their first encounter, the two set up a date at a "giant dance club that was filled with rabid 'boy-toy' doppelganger fans of both sexes," Lowe revealed.
"It was a madhouse," Lowe recalled of walking through the club until he reached the VIP section. "Madonna and I were discussing where we would sneak off to at the end of the evening when she suddenly jumped up and said, 'Let’s dance!'… I'll wait here,' I said."
"'Suit yourself,' she replied as she waded beyond the velvet rope into the fray."
He then told Madonna, "You're crazy," which prompted a defensive reaction from the superstar. "'No I'm not,' she said… 'I'm just not going to let success f— up my fun.'"
Lucky for Madonna, Lowe has a scandalous history with women. The West Wing actor was once engaged to Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert, dated Princess Stephanie of Monaco, and was embroiled in a massive sex tape scandal back in 1988. He went on to marry Sheryl Berkoff in 1991, with whom he shares two sons, Matthew, 21, and Johnowen, 19.
For her part, Madonna married her own "bad boy" — Sean Penn — in 1985, divorcing him 4 years later. She then married director Guy Ritchie in 2000, although her second marriage ended in 2008.
Lowe's latest memoir is due out April 8.
