Honoring a great. The WWE paid tribute to the late "Rowdy" Roddy Piper on Monday, Aug. 3, just days after the Hall of Fame wrestler's death.
Piper, who passed away on July 31 at the age of 61, was honored by his former colleagues and friends with a moving tribute video during the latest episode of Monday Night Raw.
As his rep previously confirmed to Us Weekly, the Canadian fighter unexpectedly died of "natural causes" last week in his Los Angeles home. Piper spent decades wrestling before his death, making a name for himself in the 1970s and continuing to brawl through the 2000s.
Highlights from his illustrious career were shown in the tribute video on Monday evening. Set to the bagpipe music that the star was known, and then transitioning to Greg Holden's 2015 single "Hold on Tight," the video shows photos and footage from Piper's childhood up until the last days of his life.
Immediately after the news broke that Piper had passed, WWE stars took to Twitter to send their condolences. Hulk Hogan — who faced off against Piper many times in the ring but was recently terminated by the wrestling organization — wrote, "Totally lost for words,RIP,Roddy one,and God bless your family,I love you my brother, only love HH," and John Cena added, "One of the true greats of all time. My heart goes out to his family and the fans he entertained over the years. RIP Rowdy."
Colleagues also pay tribute to Piper in the Monday Night Raw clip. "He is the original trash talker," one pal says, while another chimes in, "[He had] so much passion and so much heart."
