He must be her lucky star! More than 25 years after Sean Penn and Madonna ended their short-lived marriage, the ex-spouses are still drawn to each other like magnets. Penn, who split from girlfriend Charlize Theron in June, is one of Madge’s biggest fans, and has been spotted at multiple concerts on her Rebel Heart tour in recent months.
Most recently, the Gangster Squad actor, 55, was front-row at her show in Vancouver, Canada, on Wednesday, Oct. 14. He was photographed alongside fellow Madonna pal Amy Schumer, who opened for the “Ghosttown” singer, 57, at her performances in New York City last month.
Penn — who married Madonna just a few months after meeting her on the set of her “Material Girl” video in 1985 — also took in a Madonna concert at NYC’s Madison Square Garden in September. He even introduced the pop icon to his daughter, Dylan Penn. (Dylan’s mom is the actor’s second ex-wife, Robin Wright.)
“She had never met Madonna before, but Madonna was really sweet to her,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “Madonna and Sean have stayed close friends over the years, so of course she embraced Dylan.”
A few nights later, at her Rebel Heart show in Brooklyn, Madge spoke about her ex onstage, telling the crowd at Barclays Center that the Oscar winner had written her a note after attending the MSG performance.
“I did a show at Madison Square Garden the other night if you heard about it. And my ex-husband was there! Could you imagine?” Madonna shared.
“He had been at my show 30 years earlier when I was at Madison Square Garden, and he was very upset with me for wearing a costume that was too revealing. That’s not a lie!” she dished of Penn. “Anyway, after the show, he wrote me a letter and said he finally appreciates my art. And that is what I have to say about marriage, okay!? Thirty f–king years later.”
Penn also attended one of the Grammy winner’s MDNA concerts in L.A. back in 2012. At the time, a fellow audience member told Us that the pair’s chemistry was “off the charts.”
“Madonna seemed to be performing entirely for Sean,” the observer shared. “And he was saying things like ‘Amazing!’ and ‘She’s so hot!'”
