Selena Quintanilla’s brother, Abraham Isaac “A.B.” Quintanilla III, appears to have found himself in a legal situation with his sister, Suzette Quintanilla-Arriaga.
“Due to the numerous calls and inquiries I have received from various media outlets, I feel it is necessary to break my silence and publicly clarify this situation,” A.B., 62, wrote via Instagram on Monday, August 31. “Yes, there is a lawsuit related to Suzette Arriaga, as well as to facts and circumstances related to my father, Abraham Quintanilla.”
Abraham, who served as Selena’s manager throughout her illustrious music career, died in Texas at the end of 2025. He was 86.
“The lawsuit is part of a process that began a few months ago, but what led me to this point did not start a few months ago. It comes from years,” A.B. claimed in his statement. “Years of accumulated situations, decisions and circumstances that for a long time I chose to keep silent out of respect, out of loyalty, and above all, because it involved my own family.”
He continued, “I have never imagined the day would come when I would have to face a situation like this. There are things I have discovered and experienced during this process that have deeply impacted me. I never thought that within my own family situations could occur that would lead me to make a decision of this magnitude.”
Selena’s mother, Marcella Quintanilla, and sister Suzette, however, alleged that they have not been served with any lawsuit when they responded to A.B.’s public statement.
“We have seen A.B.’s recent public statement. Because it contains serious and false insinuations concerning Suzette, Abraham and our family, we feel it is necessary to correct the record,” the mother-daughter duo shared via Instagram on Wednesday, September 2. “We have no interest in attacking A.B., humiliating him or litigating decades of family history through social media. We are responding because serious allegations and implications have now been made publicly and silence should not be mistaken for agreement with statements that are false.”
Marcella and Suzette added, “We love A.B. He is our son and brother. But loving someone does not require us to accept false accusations or remain silent while the reputations of Suzette, Abraham and our family are called into question. We will continue to protect our family, Abraham’s memory, Selena’s legacy and the truth.”
In his original statement, A.B. said he will not be “entering into details of the case at this time” out of respect for the legal process.
“But I want to make one thing very clear: There is years of history. There are facts. There is evidence. There are circumstances. And there is much that is still unknown,” he claimed. “Those who know me know that I have always been a direct, transparent and honest person. For years, I preferred to keep many things to myself. But there comes a time when remaining silent is no longer an option.”
In March 1995, Selena was shot and killed at a motel in Texas by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldívar.
Saldívar, 65, was convicted of first-degree murder in October 1995 and sentenced to life in prison. She was denied parole at her first-ever eligibility hearing in March 2025.
During Selena’s career, A.B. served as her bass guitarist and primary songwriter for many of her hits, including “Como la Flor.” Suzette, 59, meanwhile, was a drummer for Selena y Los Dinos before she helped manage the Grammy winner’s legacy and museum following Selena’s death.
