Sheinelle Jones claimed fake content created about her family has gone too far in the wake of her late husband Uche Ojeh’s death.
The Today With Jenna & Sheinelle cohost reflected on seeing an AI interview that involved her three children, Kayin, 17, and twins Clara and Uche Jr., both 14, which many unsuspecting social media users thought was real.
“There was this one, I was on Facebook — and you tell me what I should do — I’m on Facebook. It was like, ‘Sheinelle Jones and Her Family Sits Down with Katie Couric,’” Jones, 48, said on the Monday, September 28, episode of the morning show. “And it’s me with my kids and a picture with Katie, and it looks like we’re in a living room, which was not my living room. And it had all these pictures.”
Jones’ husband of 17 years died of glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, in 2025. Ojeh was 45.
“The only reason that anyone may guess that it’s not me — one of my girlfriends noticed it — is because Clara, the glasses weren’t quite right. It just did not happen,” the TV personality told Jenna Bush Hager, revealing the tiny detail on her daughter’s face gave it away.
“But it’s so frustrating because I then thought, I wanted so badly to comment, ‘Hey guys, this isn’t me,’” she further explained. “But I’ve been told you’re not supposed to give it air.”
Hager, 44, condemned the people who create phony AI content and share it as if it were the real deal, noting it’s especially cruel and heartless “when somebody is in pain, when somebody is going through a hard time, to make something up when somebody is hurt.”
On Monday’s show, Jones also recalled another instance when she saw a slideshow of photos on social media during the final months of her husband’s life.
“I remember when I was on leave — ‘Sheinelle Jones: Pictures with Her Husband’ — at one time I was on Facebook and it fooled me,” she said. “Then I started thinking about where we were and who got in there. It fooled me, and it’s me!”
“Then I looked closely and I was like, ‘Wait a minute, this is not real.’ It had a picture of his big hair and that’s not how he had his hair,” she shared.
Jones has continued to honor Uche’s memory in the months since his death. The pair first met at Northwestern University in the late 1990s.
They were together for eight years before Uche popped the question. The couple got married in September 2007 in her hometown of Philadelphia during a romantic ceremony in front of friends and family, going on to welcome Kayin in August 2009 and their twins in July 2012.
