‘Sherlock’ Actress Amanda Abbington Says She Was Robbed — No, Really — at the 2016 Emmys

Looks like Sherlock Holmes has a new case on his hands. In an ironic twist, Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington claimed that her purse was stolen during the 2016 Emmys on Sunday, September 18.

According to the actress, who plays Mary Morstan on the BBC series, someone snatched her bag while she and her castmates were on stage accepting the Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie for the BBC show’s Christmas special, Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.

“Thanks for the lovely tweets re; the Emmy's. So pleased we won! Cool, right?” Abbington, 42, tweeted early Monday, September 19. “However, we went up to collect the Emmy, did some press, came back to my seat and some bastard had nicked my purse from under my seat. Nice.”

Abbington added on Twitter that her purse contained all of her essential belongings for the evening, including her driver’s license and cellphone. “So whoever took my purse, I hope some terrible Karmic s–t happens to you. How crappy is that,” she wrote.

One follower suggested that perhaps it got kicked under her chair at L.A.'s Microsoft Theater and that someone on staff may have picked it up. “No, I hung around until everyone had left the auditorium,” she explained to the fan. “Nothing there.”

Seemingly understanding that the situation is out of her control, Abbington tweeted on Monday: “Thanks for all the kind words re: my handbag. Still no sign of it. And can't use find my iPhone as my wifi wasn't on. Onwards and upwards. X.”
