Oops! Shia LaBeouf’s wedding to Mia Goth wasn’t supposed to livestream — but he’s not mad about it. The newly married actor, 30, opened up about his surprise nuptials during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which airs on Tuesday, October 18.
Us Weekly confirmed in March that the former Disney star and Goth, 22, were engaged after dating on and off since 2012. On October 10, TMZ posted a livestream of the couple exchanging vows during an Elvis Presley-themed ceremony at Sin City’s Viva Las Vegas chapel.
“The plan was for it to be a private deal,” LaBeouf explained to DeGeneres, 58. “Part of the package, the King Tut package, you get a livestream for free – [it’s] part of the deal. And I said, ‘Ya know, we don’t really need that as a matter of fact. We’ll just take our private tape. We got our Moms there,’ and they said ‘no problem.'”
Unfortunately, that’s not what happened. “We get back home and it’s like, ‘Whoa, hey listen, something changed!'” he explained.
“It got streamed out and TMZ picked it up?” DeGeneres asked.
LaBeouf replied: “It did. It did, yep.”
Luckily, LaBeouf and the Everest actress weren’t too peeved about it. In fact, the livestream helped some of their loved ones watch it with the rest of the world.
“I [called the church] up and they said somebody pressed the wrong button that sends the video to TMZ. I said, ‘I understood.’ I checked with my girl and she said, ‘Hey, what are you gonna do?’ And ya know, it’s love. We’re proud of it. It was love,” he said. “[Our] dads couldn’t be there so it was kind of nice to have them there watching in a way.”
This is the first marriage for LaBeouf. The American Honey star previously dated Carey Mulligan in 2010 and stylist Karolyn Pho from 2010 to 2012.
