You’ll be eager to update your app after this announcement! Snapchat introduced a new “Memories” feature, which allows you to save your own Snapchats to a smarter, searchable camera roll and post old photos to your Story.

By saving your Snaps to Memories, you can search through them by caption or recognized objects (for example, searching “dog” brings up all the puppy pics you’ve ever taken), or reshare old clips to your Story at a later time.

“Memories is a new way to save Snaps and Stories on Snapchat. It’s a personal collection of your favorite moments that lives below the Camera screen. Just swipe up from the Camera to open Memories,” the social media company wrote on its blog Wednesday, July 6.

“You can use Memories to create new Stories from Snaps you’ve taken, or even combine different Stories into a longer narrative!” Snapchat continued on the blog. “It’s fun to celebrate an anniversary or birthday by finding a few old Snaps and stringing them together into a new Story.”

You can also edit old Snaps saved to Memories by adding emojis, time-stamps or geofilters, even if it was taken long ago in a far away place. But if you post a Snap taken more than 24 hours ago, it will have a special white border around it to indicate that it’s from the past.

The new update will totally help users live in the moment. If you’re on a fabulous vacation, you can snap pictures now but edit and share them later at your convenience.

Another new feature of Memories: If you have any content you want to keep private, you can mark it My Eyes Only. This makes it impossible for anyone looking at your Snapchat camera roll to accidentally stumble upon it. Users must enter a pin to access anything marked with the label.

The feature will be rolling out to all users within the next month or so. Users will receive a chat message from Team Snapchat when Memories is up and running on their account.
