So soulful! Soccer star Carli Lloyd revealed to Us Weekly Video that her first cassette was Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love To You.”
“I put it on repeat all the time,” she told Us during a Day in the Life of Carli Lloyd event presented by Heineken. “It’s great.” These days, however, she prefers “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay. “Something about it just gets me in a good moment,” the Houston Dash player explained.
The gold medal–winning goal specialist (she scored them in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics) can add both to her wedding playlist. The 34-year-old is set to wed her longtime love (and high school sweetheart) Brian Hollins in the fall.
The midfielder, who is just competed in her third Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals on Friday, August 12), also shared how she was different from other soccer players when she first started playing at age 5, as well as her thoughts on playing herself in the video game Women in FIFA 16.
“Women have come a long way that we were included in this,” the World Cup champion said. “And it’s pretty rad playing myself on Xbox. So, so creepy, but it’s, like, really cool.”
Lloyd recently made headlines because of her work to get equal pay for both male and female soccer players. She and her fellow national team players, including Alex Morgan, filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in March after growing tired with their lower paychecks, despite the fact that the U.S. women’s soccer team is currently ranked No. 1 in the world, won the 2015 World Cup and has scored four Olympic gold medals.
“I think the equal-pay thing has been huge,” she says. “I think it’s a big step for women’s soccer; it’s a big step for women in general all across the globe, and we’ve just got to keep fighting.”
