Can't touch this. Sofia Vergara broke her silence on the ongoing saga involving Nick Loeb on Monday, May 4, several days after her ex-fiance penned an elaborate op-ed for the New York Times about how their frozen embryos have a right to live.
The Modern Family actress, 42, already a mom to her 22-year-old son Manolo, shared her parenting philosophy. "A child needs a mother and a loving relationship with parents who don’t hate each other," she noted. "I don’t hate him but obviously he has a problem. A kid needs parents. I wouldn’t want to bring kids to the world where it’s already set against them. It would be so selfish."
Vergara told Stern that she didn't read Loeb's op-ed. Her publicist told her not to because "it makes no sense." In it, the Onion Crunch founder wrote: "Many have asked me: Why not just move on and have a family of your own? I have every intention of doing so. But that doesn’t mean I should let the two lives I have already created be destroyed or sit in a freezer until the end of time."
According to Vergara, Loeb, 39, simply had to accept the lay of the land. "You sign papers," she said point-blank of their agreement. "If it was so serious for him, this issue, which I totally respect because it's serious. Then you should've taken it more seriously at the time. There is a contract. He can’t do anything…. We did it two times. You make the mistake the first time. Two times? And now you want to change your mind?! …You have to follow what you sign!"
Despite the drama, Vergara said she was cool. "I'm okay," she told Stern. "I didn't do anything wrong," noting: "This is a year later."
Indeed, one year has made all the difference for the beautiful Colombian native. After she and Loeb split, Vergara moved on with Magic Mike hunk Joe Manganiello, and the two got engaged over the holidays. The two are now planning their wedding, which she confirmed on Monday will be attended by many celebrities including Reese Witherspoon and the cast of Modern Family.
As for how her future husband was handling the entire fiasco? "Joe and I try not to even talk about it," she said. "We have lawyers. We’re having so much fun right now. We just moved into a new house. We’re planning a wedding. We try not to think about this, we can't do anything. It's signed, it's done, and that's it."
