Ack! TMZ posted a shocking surveillance video on Monday, May 12, of Beyonce‘s younger sister Solange Knowles allegedly attacking Jay Z, in an elevator on the evening of the Met Gala.
The video of the melee was reportedly taken as the group attended a Met Gala after party at the Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room. The footage appears to show Beyonce, Jay Z and Solange stepping into the elevator. Solange, 27, with her hair styled in a short bob, begins to corner her brother-in-law within the confined quarters.
The incident quickly escalates into Solange screaming at Jay Z (clad in a white tuxedo jacket), and eventually lunging at him—throwing punches and kicks, while Jay holds her at arm’s length as he attempts to defend himself.
A man, standing at the front of the elevator, then grabs Solange to subdue her. Jay, meanwhile, stands against one elevator wall, while Beyonce watches the incident but stays out of it. As Solange yells at Jay Z while the security guard still holds her back, Beyonce steps between her sister and husband.
TMZ reports that someone in the elevator hit the emergency stop switch—as Solange unleashed her fury. The party is photographed exiting the elevator, with Solange clearly looking disgruntled, while Jay Z and Beyonce appear more composed.
A source tells Us Weekly, “Solange flipped out over something Jay had said, that she took the wrong way. She took it too hard or too far. Not sure what it was, but she greatly overreacted.”
Solange, for her part, tweeted Sunday, May 11, “This might have been top 10 days ever in life.”
Neither Jay Z nor Solange’s rep had a comment regarding the incident.
