Airman First Class Spencer Stone was stabbed on Wednesday, Oct. 7, NBC reports. The American was one of the three men who helped stop a terrorist attack on a French train over the summer.
According to NBC, Stone, 23, was injured in Sacramento, Calif., on Wednesday evening. He is currently in stable condition.
“He is alive and in stable condition at this time,” an Air Force spokesperson said in a statement. “We do not have any information as to the events preceding the incident.”
Back in August, Stone and his two childhood friends — Oregon Army National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler — tackled a gunman on a train while traveling together from Amsterdam to Paris on Aug. 22. For their heroic actions, they later met President Barack Obama in the Oval Office and received the Legion of Honor.
“By their courage, they saved lives,” French President Francois Hollande said at the time. “They gave us an example of what is possible to do in these kinds of situations.”
Following the incident, Skarlatos, 22, joined Season 21 of Dancing With the Stars. Stone recently taped a pre-performance package as tribute to his longtime friend, which aired during the ABC show on Monday.
As previously reported, Skarlatos has also faced a tough blow this month. The student briefly left DWTS rehearsals to be with his peers after a gunman killed 10 people at his Oregon school, Umpqua Community College, on Thursday, Oct. 1.
Story is still developing.
