If you’re still mourning the loss of Zayn Malik from One Direction, it’s time to pay attention to theoretical physics. Legendary British cosmologist Stephen Hawking weighed in on Zayn’s exit from the hit boy band during an April 26 talk at the Sydney Opera House, Reuters reports.
"Finally a question about something important," Hawking, 73, joked, while appearing via hologram. "My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay attention to the study of theoretical physics because, one day, there may well be proof of multiple universes.”
That’s right, in another universe, things could have turned out differently and One Direction could still be whole.
"It would not be beyond the realms of possibility that somewhere outside of our own universe lies another, different universe and, in that universe, Zayn is still in One Direction,” Hawking concluded.
In addition to his many accomplishments in physics and cosmology, Hawking was also the subject of the Oscar-winning film The Theory of Everything, for which actor Eddie Redmayne won the Best Actor Academy Award for playing Hawking. The film was based on his ex-wife Jane Wilde’s memoir, Travelling to Infinity: My Life With Stephen. Hawking suffers from ALS, which has confined him to a wheelchair.
