Steve Perry's journey isn't over. The 64-year-old former Journey frontman revealed in an emotional blog post on Thursday, June 6, that he was recently diagnosed with skin cancer — but he believes he's going to be fine.
"Three weeks ago a routine mole was taken off my face and the lab report came back melanoma skin cancer," he wrote. "I've had two surgeries in two weeks to remove all the cancer cells and I've been told they think they got it all and no other treatments are required."
Perry also shared a picture of his face scar and jokingly compared himself to a character from Pirates of the Caribbean. Though the musician is keeping his spirits up after his diagnosis, he is also still grieving the loss of a loved one.
In the same post, Perry revealed that his girlfriend, Kellie Nash, died in December 2012 after battling breast cancer. He shared the touching story of how he pursued Nash after seeing her image while a friend was editing the 2011 Lifetime's anthology Five, and the two quickly fell in love.
"Though Kellie and I were only together for 1 and 1/2 years, it was a lifetime of love packed into every moment," he wrote. "God bless my precious Kellie. I loved you before I met you — I love you now — and I always will! "
