Tamar Braxton is in mourning after the death of Trina Braxton’s husband, Von Scales.
“I don’t know how to make this real 💔 Von ‘Top 5’ that’s what I called you because that’s exactly what you were,” Tamar, 49, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, October 4. “One of my top five favorite people in this world & you still are. You always will be. I’m going to miss YOU. Your presence. Your heart. Your strength & how you showed up & protected the people you loved.”
The Braxton Family Values star praised Scales as a “man’s man” with one of “the biggest hearts I’ve ever known.’
“The way you loved my sister. I have never seen anyone love Trina the way you did,” Tamar wrote. “You didn’t just say it, you showed it. You covered her. You protected her. As her sister, there are no words for what it meant to know somebody loved her THAT deeply. Thank you for loving my sister the way she deserved.”
In her tribute, Tamar shared a throwback clip where Scales proposed to Trina, 51, and she enthusiastically said “yes.”
It’s one of the many moments Tamar hopes to never forget as the Braxton family continues to mourn.
“It feels so unfair that Trina has to grieve again when we’re still learning how to live without Traci [Braxton]. Some losses you don’t ‘get over.’ You just learn how to carry them & now she has to carry this too 💔,” Tamar wrote. “But Trina, you’ll never carry it alone. We are here. Your sisters are here. When you can’t stand, we’ll hold you up. When you don’t know how you’ll make it through another day, we’ll make it through together. That’s what family does & that’s what we’ll always be… FAMILY 🤞🏾 I hate that our family has to learn how to live with another piece of our hearts missing.”
A spokesperson for the Braxton family confirmed to TMZ on Thursday, October 1, that Scales had died at the age of 58. His cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Trina and Scales had been married since 2019. The singer’s ex-husband, Gabriel Solis, died one year prior from cancer.
In her personal social media post, Tamar expressed her hope that Scales was able to reunite with Traci, who died in March 2022 at the age of 50 from esophageal cancer.
“I can only imagine y’all laughing, talking & carrying on while we’re down here crying. Give our Traci the biggest hug for us,” Tamar wrote via Instagram. “And y’all better watch over Trina. Both of you. She needs y’all now more than ever. Grateful for every laugh, conversation & memory. I wish I could call you. I wish ‘Top 5’ was still something I could yell when I saw you instead of something I now carry in my heart with the other broken pieces.”
She continued, “Rest well, Von. You fought. You loved. You protected. You left your mark on us. There’s millions of people in this world, but you my boy will be in my personal Top 5 FOREVER 🤞🏽💔.”
