You might think Topher Grace had the inside track on Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, given that he spent the better part of eight years with them on That ’70s Show, but you’d be wrong. According to the actor, 37, there were no signs back in the day that the costars would someday be married with a baby.
“You know, it’s funny, ’cause it’s fascinating to everyone, but it’s fascinating to people in the cast, too,” he told Andy Cohen during Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday, Nov. 3. “Because no…I mean, we were all buddies, but it’s so great. It’s like two of your best friends from high school met years after high school and got together.”
In fact, Kunis and Kutcher played high school sweethearts on the Fox sitcom, which ran from 1998 to 2006. The Black Swan actress, 32, even got her first kiss from the Two and a Half Men star, 37, during one of the early seasons in the late ’90s.
“My first real kiss ever was with him on the show,” she told W Magazine in 2014, referring to the on-screen romance between their characters, Jackie Burkhart and Michael Kelso. “And when That ’70s Show had a prom, my date for the prom turned out to be my fiancé. We can honestly say that we went to prom together! Although I do think that in that episode I went home with someone else. We don’t talk about that part.”
In real life, too, both stars had relationships with other people before ending up together in 2012. Kunis dated Macaulay Culkin for eight years until 2010, while Kutcher famously romanced Demi Moore. The two married in 2005 but separated in 2011 following his headline-making fling with multiple women in San Diego, Calif.
Asked by a WWHL caller whether the Jobs actor was cooler with Moore, 52, or with Kunis, Grace gave a diplomatic answer, saying, “He’s always been a really cool guy. We started acting together on the same day. He’d never acted, I’d never acted. So to know someone that well and grow up with them, it’s great. So he’s always been cool. I legitimately mean that.”
Kunis and Kutcher got engaged last year and married this past July. They welcomed their first child, daughter Wyatt, in October 2014.
