Once a niche corner of the wellness world, adaptogens are now everywhere — and Travis Barker is helping push that shift.
The Blink-182 drummer’s wellness brand just expanded its adaptogen mushroom gummies to Target stores nationwide. Now, adaptogenic ingredients long associated with a niche wellness culture is within reach of everyday shoppers.
Barker Wellness, the premium, vegan and cruelty-free health brand Barker founded, says the line is built for daily use. It’s made without gluten, sugar, artificial flavors or preservatives.
“I’ve always focused on building products that I actually use every day and that fit into real life,” Barker said in a press release published April 29. “We’re creating functional products that help people feel their best every day. And bringing these gummies to Target makes it easier for more people to make them part of their daily routine.”
What Are Adaptogen Mushrooms?
Adaptogens are natural, non-toxic plants, herbs and mushrooms that help the body manage and adapt to physical, chemical or biological stress, according to UCLA Health. They work by modulating the body’s stress response system — the HPA axis — balancing cortisol levels and supporting energy, focus and recovery.
Hundreds of mushroom species exist, but only about a dozen qualify as functional mushrooms. Four adaptogen mushrooms stand out for their stress-modulating properties:
- Reishi: stress reduction, cortisol regulation and calming effects
- Cordyceps: antioxidant effects and HPA-axis support
- Lion’s Mane: nerve growth, memory, focus and mood
- Chaga: physical performance, oxygen utilization and endurance
Common adaptogenic herbs include ashwagandha, astragalus, ginseng, schisandra, holy basil, lemon balm, ginkgo biloba and bacopa monnieri.

What to Know Before Trying Travis Barker’s Adaptogen Mushroom Gummies
The Cleveland Clinic defines an adaptogen by three qualities: it is non-toxic at normal doses, it helps the body cope with stress and it allows the body to return to balance.
But that doesn’t make adaptogens risk-free.
“Supplements in general are not highly regulated the way medications and drugs are,” UCLA Health senior dietitian Dana Ellis Hunnes said. “A bottle can say it contains ashwagandha or ginseng, but it’s not regulated by the FDA and may not have the right potency.”
Uma Naidoo, director of nutritional and lifestyle psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, urges caution before adding adaptogens to a daily routine.
“I always encourage patients to view adaptogens as supportive tools – not quick fixes,” she told USA Today. “And I stress remembering to prioritize foundational habits like nutrition, sleep, movement and stress management first.”
