Hello . . . Donn. Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson revealed during her tell-all, one-on-one interview with Andy Cohen on Monday, Nov. 23, that while she is over her ex-boyfriend Brooks Ayers, she cannot seem to let go of her ex-husband, Donn Gunvalson.
Gunvalson, 53, has been on a very public tear against Ayers after he recently copped to fabricating cancer documents. "He said, 'You'll never have access to my medical records,'" Gunvalson told the Watch What Happens Live host. "It was another red flag."
Ayers owned up to faking documents after a rep from City of Hope hospital told Us Weekly earlier this month that he was never a patient at its cancer-treatment facility.
"Words cannot express the deep regret that I have in fabricating documents to 'prove' to the world that I, in fact, have cancer," Ayers told E! News on Nov. 11. "What I did was wrong and inexcusable. I acted alone, without Vicki's knowledge, to produce documents for a reality TV show in hopes of putting doubts about my cancer to rest. I never intended to disclose my actual medical records or details about my private and personal medical history, thus the rationalization of presenting documents that weren't true simply for a 'story line' for the show."
Vicki, for her part, has claimed that she was duped by Ayers and had nothing to do with his cancer lies. In order to prove her point, she even provided email exchanges between her and her ex-boyfriend. "It means I am not in on this, right?" she said. "He had to orchestrate some crazy-ass chain of lies in order for all of this to make sense. He brought his work, friends, me, and the [Housewives] cast into this."
While they were together, she fought to see the papers and for Ayers to prove his point. "Every night I fought with him. Every night," she shared. In fact, there were instances when she herself would confront Ayers about his sickness. Gunvalson recalled how she would say, "Brooks, what's going on? Do you have cancer? I don't get what's going on here."
His response was always the same, according to the veteran Housewife. "He kept saying, 'Stay out of it, stay out of my health care, it's my journey,'" Gunvalson said. "'You're filming a reality show, it's not about me.'"
It was revealed by Tamra Judge during Part 3 of the RHOC Season 10 reunion special that Gunvalson left her then-husband, Donn, to take care of Ayers as he supposedly battled his illness. Gunvalson first filed for divorce in 2010, after 19 years of marriage. Now, she regrets her decision.
"I think if I had to do it all over again, I would not have divorced Donn," the reality star told Cohen. "I know that for a fact. In hindsight, if we could do things differently . . . He was a great man [and] great husband.
