By now, the world is well aware who president-elect Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump is — but what about her husband, Jared Kushner? Us Weekly Video reveals six things to know about the 35-year-old businessman in the video above.
In 2006, the then-25-year-old real estate mogul bought the New York Observer, a weekly NYC newspaper. He paid $10 million using money he told The New York Times he earned while in college by closing deals on residential buildings in Massachusetts. During his chat with the paper, Kushner pledged to stay out of the editorial process and to focus on the paper’s success.
“I am here to help build the paper in a way that will lead to the best and most honest reporting, regardless of who is involved,” he told the Times. “It is up to the editors and reporters to decide what should be in the paper. The headline in everything we do should be integrity.”
The businessman got into the real estate business early, taking over his father’s business at the age of 27 when his dad, Charles Kushner, was sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 after pleading guilty to 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering and illegal campaign donations.
In 2007, Kushner made headlines for making the most expensive single-building purchase ever in New York City, buying a Fifth Avenue property for $1.8 billion.
After meeting Ivanka at a business lunch that same year, the pair married in 2009 and are now the parents of three children — Arabella, 5, Joseph, 3, and Theodore, 8 months. Prior to their nuptials, the fashion designer converted to Judaism for her husband.
