A middle school teacher at Burns Middle School in Mobile, Alabama, has been suspended for giving her eighth-grade students a test with math questions about prostitutes, drive-by shootings and drugs.
Word problems included:
"Dwayne pimps 3 ho's. If the price is $85 per trick, how many tricks per day must each ho turn to support Dwayne’s $800 per day crack habit?
"Tyrone knocked up 4 girls in the gang. There are 20 girls in his gang. What is the exact percentage of girls Tyrone knocked up?
"Raul wants to cut the pound of cocaine he bought for $40,000 to make a 20% profit. How many one ounce bags will he need to make to obtain the 20% profit?"
Additionally, each eighth grader was also asked to come up with a “gang/crew name.”
Erica Hall, a parent of one of the students, tells Us Weekly her 14-year-old son, Jaylon, texted her a picture of the quiz. “His reaction and the class’ reaction was the same. They all thought it was a joke,” Hall tells Us. “And when they asked the teacher if it was a joke, she told them that, no, it wasn’t a joke and they had to complete it, so they completed it.”
Hall says the teacher, who has not been identified, was respected by her students. “My son said she was a good teacher, one of the best teachers at the school,” Hall tells Us. “He doesn’t think that she deserves the attention that she’s getting. I don’t think he fully understands the extent of what she did.”
According to Fox10 News, the test has circulated online for years, causing similar controversies.
