Zigi (Gayn?) fans must be confused. Zayn Malik has seemingly denied that he is dating supermodel Gigi Hadid in a new interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1 on Thursday, January 28. After Us Weekly broke the news of the new couple in November 2015, the pair has been spotted out and about together several times and even posed in sweet Instagram shots.
Malik, 23, gave a mixed message when host Zane Lowe mentioned during the chat that the singer was “in a relationship.”
“Yeah,” he stammered. “We’re good friends.”
Malik, who left One Direction in March 2015, didn’t clarify whether that meant that he and girlfriend Hadid, 20, were also close pals or that he was actually single.
One area he didn’t leave up for interpretation was his relationship with One Direction and his former bandmates.
"I always wanted to go, from the first year really," Malik stated. "I never really wanted to be in the band. I just gave it a go because it was there at the time … There wasn’t any time to process anything.”
Now Malik — who is releasing his first solo single, “Pillow Talk,” on Friday, January 29 — is preparing for his own debut album.
“It is finished,” he revealed. “There’s obviously little bits and parts I need to do on certain things. … I think there’s going to be 17 or 18 songs.”
Malik and Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards ended their engagement in August 2015. And Hadid and Joe Jonas split shortly before she got together with Malik.
