What a doll! Zendaya shared a photo on Instagram on Saturday, Sept. 26, that showed off her newly created Barbie doll — and it looks just like her!
Mattel has crafted a doll inspired by the Vivienne Westwood dress and hairstyle that Zendaya wore to the 2015 Academy Awards.
"When I was little I couldn't find a Barbie that looked like me, my…how times have changed," the K.C. Undercover actress captioned the photo on Instagram. "Thank you @barbie for this honor and for allowing me to be apart of your diversification and expansion of the definition of beauty. Can't wait to keep doing amazing things with you."
Kelley Baker, who does Zendaya’s eyebrows, tells Us: “Zendaya is such a natural beauty. We work to keep her brows full and gorgeous, and I love how her Barbie doll reflects that.”
The 19-year-old's dreadlocked hair became a sensation off the red carpet when it prompted Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic to quip that it probably smelled "like patchouli oil. Or weed." Rancic's attempt at a joke set off a storm of controversy and prompted Zendaya to call out E! star for her "outrageously offensive" comments.
"There is already harsh criticism of African American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair," Zendaya wrote in an Instagram post in February. "To me locs are a symbol of strength and beauty, almost like a lion's mane."
Co-hosts Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin quit the long-running style show amid controversy over Rancic's comments.
