The murder trial for Caleb Flynn has begun seven months after he was arrested as the primary suspect in his wife Ashley Flynn’s death.
Caleb, who once appeared on American Idol as a contestant, is accused of staging the crime scene after he allegedly fatally shot Ashley at their Tipp City, Ohio, home. She was 37.
Bodycam footage shared by police captured Caleb sobbing at the home after officers responded to his 911 call on February 16, 2026. He claimed there had been a break-in during which Ashley was killed by a burglar.
He was also recorded telling Ashley’s mother over the phone that her daughter was “gone,” and “someone broke in and shot her.”
His defense attorney L. Patrick Mulligan, told Us via email on February 20, the day after Caleb’s arrest, that he “looks forward to defending this case.”

Who Was Caleb Flynn’s Wife?
Caleb and Ashley were married for 15 years before she died one week ahead of her 38th birthday, per the Dayton Daily News. They shared two daughters together.
She was a teacher in Tipp City and volleyball coach for Tippecanoe Middle School, according to Tipp City Schools.
Ashley was also a member of the Christian Life Center in Butler Township, where Caleb once worked as a music pastor.
“Ashley lived her life as the hands and feet of Jesus. Her laughter was contagious,” reads a GoFundMe page established by her friend, Jon Crawford. “She was an incredible encourager who loved people deeply. She was a devoted wife, an amazing mother, and a cherished daughter, sister, and friend.”
What is Caleb Flynn Charged With?
Caleb was indicted on a slew of charges in Ashley’s death, prosecutors announced in a March 16 news release previously shared with Us.
He is facing one count of aggravated murder, three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, three counts of tampering with evidence and two counts of intimidation of an attorney, victim, or witness in a criminal case.
Caleb has pleaded not guilty to all charges, according to CNN.
Mulligan told the outlet on September 15 that: “We’re looking forward to trying the case.”
“We’ve been waiting for this,” he added.
Mulligan didn’t immediately return a request for comment from Us.
If Caleb is found guilty, he will face life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to prosecutors.

Caleb appeared as a contestant on season 12 of American Idol in 2013.
While appearing on the season, he spoke of Ashley, describing her as a “very, very pretty wife,” and said that he loved her “more than anything.”
How Long Will Caleb Flynn’s Trial Last?
Caleb’s trial is estimated to last roughly two weeks, per CNN. There are plans for the jurors who are selected on Thursday to visit Caleb and Ashley’s Tipp City home and hear the testimonies of her loved ones.
His daughters and a woman Caleb was allegedly having an affair with are also expected to testify against him, according to People.
In Mulligan’s previous statement to Us, he said that he and Caleb were “both disappointed and concerned about the short timeline and seeming rush to judgment in this case.”
