A mother in Florida was arrested after she allegedly assaulted her daughter’s elementary school teacher and principal when they wouldn’t allow her inside of the school building to get the girl’s backpack that she left in a classroom.

Lynesia Dorsey has been charged with battery on a school employee following the incident that took place during the first week of school on August 13.

Dorsey, 26, was at Turie T. Smalls Elementary School in Daytona Beach, Florida, around 2:30 p.m. when she walked up to her daughter’s teacher at the end of the school day, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit viewed by Law & Crime.

After Dorsey allegedly told the teacher that she wanted to go inside to get the girl’s backpack, the teacher said that no parents were allowed in the school during the first week “due to all staffing being needed to ensure the safety of the students.”

Dorsey then allegedly started to argue with the teacher, and she allegedly punched the teacher several times in the face after being denied entry into the building.

The school principal allegedly tried to hold Dorsey back amid the altercation, though she reportedly struck him multiple times too. The affidavit stated that the incident was captured on surveillance video in the school.

The school resource officer eventually reported to the scene and managed to separate Dorsey from the teacher and principal.

Police said that both the teacher and principal suffered minor injuries that included bruises and cuts. Meanwhile, Dorsey hurt her wrist and she sustained a cut on her elbow by the end of the altercation.

While speaking to police, Dorsey allegedly admitted that she attacked the teacher. However, she said she only did so because she felt that he “leaned on” her and her daughter when she asked to go to the classroom.

Dorsey was arrested and was taken to the Volusia County Jail. She has since been released from custody after she posted a $5,000 bond.

It is not currently clear if Dorsey has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following her arrest in light of the charge. The Daytona Beach Police Department did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding the case.

Those found guilty of battery on a school employee in the state of Florida can be sentenced to serve up to five years in prison and be ordered to pay a fine of up to $5,000.
