A married middle school teacher in Kentucky was arrested on a felony charge after she was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Department confirmed in a Facebook statement that they arrested Sadie Flores on Friday, August 7, and charged her with grooming a minor.
Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden said that school officials with the Graves County School District immediately notified authorities about the allegations of her improper relationship as soon as the victim came forward. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office then launched an investigation into the matter, where they gathered enough evidence to arrest Flores, 25.
Throughout the investigation, authorities seized electronic records and spoke to witnesses about the allegations.
She is accused of having secret meetings with a young student and professing “feelings of love,” according to the Daily Mail‘s report, which notes that she is married and a new mom. Prior to her arrest, police uncovered deleted messages and late-night video chats allegedly exchanged between Flores and the minor.
Officers interviewed Flores on August 7 shortly before she was arrested.
Flores was first taken to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center, though she has since been transported to a detention center outside the county.
It is not currently clear if Flores has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following her arrest.
Shortly after Flores’ arrest, Graves County Schools Superintendent Matt Madding issued a statement about the situation.
“We take any allegation involving the safety of a child or the professional conduct of an employee extremely seriously and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and the appropriate authorities,” Madding said in the statement, which was included in the police’s release.
Madding went on to state that the district could only share limited information publicly due to the ongoing status of the investigation.
“However, we want to assure our families that the safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority,” he said. “Our commitment remains to providing every student with a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment.”
Madding added that the school district was “grateful to the Graves County Sheriff’s Department for their professionalism and assistance throughout this matter, and we appreciate the continued trust and support of our students, families, and community.”
Police have shared no additional details about the case, including how long the alleged relationship took place or how old the student involved in the case is.
