A Missouri man will spend the next four decades in prison after he killed the mother of his four children following a daycare drop-off.

Trenton D. Ivy pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder, one count of second-degree tampering with a motor vehicle and two counts of tampering with physical evidence on Monday, October 5, in the death of Marquisha Williams.

After he entered his plea, St. Louis County Judge Stanley James Wallach sentenced Ivy, 34, to 30 years in prison for the murder and four years for each of the remaining three counts. In total, he will consecutively serve 42 years in prison.

Ivy and Williams’ children were in the courtroom for the sentencing, and they confronted their father about his crime. “Why did you do this?” one of the children asked, according to a report from KSDK.

Williams’ mother, Norvette Chavis, also had the chance to address the court before Ivy was sentenced.

“I lived through a nightmare,” Chavis told the judge, recalling how she spent days searching for her daughter before her body was found, per KMOV.

Chavis then directed her attention to Ivy and detailed William’s bond with their children. “You may have taken my daughter’s life, but you will never take her love,” she said.

Ivy was sentenced nearly three years after Williams was reported missing in December 2023 when she didn’t show up for work. Family members spoke to police and said that Williams and Ivy had dropped their children off at daycare centers and relatives’ homes before leaving together in her Jeep.

Ivy was arrested on December 22, 2023, on unrelated charges, and authorities located him in Williams’ Jeep when he was taken into custody. Investigators noted that there was “apparent blood and biological material” inside the vehicle, while Williams’ personal belongings were also in the Jeep.

While speaking to detectives, Ivy admitted he had killed Williams after they got into a physical altercation. He said he then disposed of her body in Illinois.

“During a post-Miranda interview with detectives of the Racine Police Department, the defendant admitted to killing Williams in St. Louis,” police said after Ivy was arrested, according to Law & Crime. “The defendant further admitted to having a physical altercation with Williams, which resulted in her death. He then admitted to disposing of her body in an unknown location.”

A search began for Williams, 29, and her body was found days later on December 28, 2023, in an Illinois nature preserve. An autopsy was performed, and her manner of death was determined to be homicide. The cause of death was strangulation.

Ivy was originally charged with first-degree murder, abandonment of a corpse and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. Those charges were eventually downgraded as part of his plea deal.
