Three years before she killed her 9-year-old son in an apparent murder-suicide, Indianapolis mother Shatayvia Alisha Calderon shared a GoFundMe post supporting Lindsay Clancy’s family after she was accused of killing her three children in January 2023.
Calderon, 33, took to Facebook on January 29, 2023, to post a fundraiser link for Lindsay’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, as the family asked for financial support while navigating the “unimaginable tragedy.”
While Calderon did not share a caption alongside the GoFundMe link, the fundraiser page explained that the “extended Clancy Family” was asking the public to “offer support for Patrick as he navigates an unimaginable tragedy.”
“We appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and outreach in support,” the family added on the fundraiser page.
She showed support for the family years before Lindsay, 36, stood trial for the murders this past summer. The high-profile case was ultimately declared a mistrial on September 4 after the jury was unable to come to a unanimous verdict.
The post was resurfaced shortly after the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to an apartment unit upon receiving a report of a shooting around 1 p.m. on Monday, October 19.
Upon their arrival, officers found Shatayvia and her son, Julian Calderon, with gunshot wounds and they were both declared dead at the scene.
“We’d like to remind our community of available resources for those struggling with mental health or thoughts of suicide,” an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson said in a statement after they confirmed they believed the incident was a murder-suicide.
Police have not shared a suspected motive, though they did say that a gun was found inside the apartment and officers spoke to a “cooperative witness” about the killings amid the investigation.
The police department’s spokesperson added that there are still “lots of questions” regarding the case, though they believe it was an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to the public.
“This is unthinkable. And we’re here to not only investigate, but to provide resources, as well. Not only here on scene, but in the days, weeks that follow this,” officer Drew Brown said.
Authorities have asked that anyone with information regarding the shooting contact Detective Carl Clark II at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
