A mother in Idaho was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the deaths of her 18-month-old twins.
The Payette Police Department confirmed in a statement that Andrea Shaw was arrested on June 30 without incident, according to WAFB. Shaw, 23, was arrested more than one year after the twins died.
Shaw is currently in custody at Ada County Jail and is waiting to be extradited to Payette County, where she will be arraigned on the charges. Police confirmed that she was charged with two counts of first-degree murder at the time of her arrest.
It is not currently clear if Shaw has entered a plea following her arrest.
Authorities said that Shaw was arrested following a lengthy investigation, in which the Payette Police Department received assistance from several agencies.
Her twins, a boy and a girl, died on May 1, 2025. At the time, officers reported to the home and found the twins dead in a shared bed.
“This is a heartbreaking case that impacts not only the family but the entire community. We ask for patience and understanding as we continue to gather facts and seek justice for these children,” the Payette Police Department said in a statement at the time.
Shaw and her husband appeared on a podcast just days after the twins died, in which they suggested the babies got sick and ultimately died shortly after they were vaccinated, according to People.
The podcast that the couple appeared on was produced by Children’s Health Defense. The organization promotes an anti-vaccine agenda and was formerly led by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
On July 1, Shaw’s attorney told KTVB that he believes the twins’ deaths were vaccine-related. “They were looking at it as a vaccine death, and that’s still what I believe it to be,” Joseph Filicetti said. “I’m not a medical expert, but the medical experts I have, [they] go through a series of [steps] when looking at different complications.”
The attorney added that Shaw has also given birth to another child following the death of her twins. “They had a child born on June 25,” he said. “She’s nursing and using bottle feeding … and now she’s in a jail.”
Police have not shared what evidence they found in order to charge Shaw with murder, and authorities added that they don’t plan to share any additional details about the case as of time of publication.
It is not currently clear if Shaw’s husband is facing charges. However, Filicetti said her husband is currently at home taking care of their newborn child.
