An Arizona couple was charged with child abuse after they allegedly took their children on an hours-long walk outside in 108-degree weather while seemingly intoxicated.
The Glendale Police Department said that a woman called police to report seeing Ryan Mullin and May Mullin walking with their 2-year-old and 4-year-old children outside in extreme heat on Sunday, August 9, according to an arrest report obtained by Us.
The woman reportedly claimed that Ryan was “stumbling and appearing extremely intoxicated,” according to the report. She even claimed that he fell over one of the children.
Meanwhile, May also appeared to be intoxicated and was reportedly vomiting.
Police said that the woman who called to report the incident offered to give the family a ride due to her concerns for their welfare. However, Ryan reportedly grew angry by the offer and he allegedly punched her vehicle. He then lost his footing and fell, which caused him to injure his face.
An officer later approached Ryan, who had blood covering the left side of his face and more blood on his shirt. Police said that Ryan appeared to be stumbling and was holding one of his children’s wrists in his hands. As Ryan became confrontational, the officer ordered him to release the child and threatened to use force in order to separate them.
Ryan eventually released the child and he was handcuffed. He then allegedly insulted the responding police officer.
The couple and their kids had reportedly been walking outside for about three hours after they left State Farm Stadium, according to court documents viewed by AZ Family. The outlet reported that the family was at the stadium to watch the Arizona Cardinals’ Red and White Practice.
Ryan and May were arrested and booked into jail on a child abuse charge, while Ryan was also booked on three counts of disorderly conduct.
It is not currently clear if Ryan or May have entered pleas or retained legal counsel following their arrests. The Glendale Police Department had no additional updates to share when contacted by Us about the case.
Despite confirming the parents’ arrests, police have not revealed who is taking care of the kids following their parents’ arrests and if they can take back custody upon their releases from jail.
An investigation into the case remains ongoing.
