A high school teacher in Milwaukee was arrested after he was accused of sexually assaulting three 17-year-old students.
The Milwaukee Police Department confirmed to Us that the sexual assaults were reported around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 15. The teacher, who has not been publicly named but was identified as a 28-year-old male, was then arrested for the alleged sexual assault of three students.
Police said that the teacher, who worked at Rufus King International High School, “allegedly touched students inappropriately,” according to Fox 6 Now. Once school staff became aware of the allegations, they immediately contacted resource officers who work in the building and alerted Child Protective Services.
On the same day as the teacher’s arrest, Rufus King International High School principal Doreen Badillo informed students and parents about the situation in a school-wide letter.
“We continue to take action to keep our school a safe and welcoming place, and I want to update you about a serious situation,” Badillo began in the letter, per Fox 6 Now. “Today, we received a report that a staff member allegedly touched students inappropriately. The behavior reported to us is absolutely unacceptable, and we will take all appropriate action.”
After confirming that the school immediately contacted police and CPS, Badillo said that the “individual is not currently working in the school.”
“Beyond any police action, we are conducting our own investigation, including a Title IX investigation,” she added.
Badillo then shared how the school is working to prevent incidents like the current one.
“In addition to responding when we receive a serious report such as this one, we also proactively require all staff to complete annual training, including training tied to Wisconsin’s anti-grooming laws and Title IX, which prohibits prohibit sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence in educational programs and activities,” she said. “Please know that any Title IX concerns across the school district can be reported using this form.”
In light of the incident, the school has provided “support to the students involved.”
“We know that this event may be upsetting for others as well. If your child needs assistance, please contact the school office to be connected to the school counselor, nurse, psychologist, or social worker,” Badillo concluded.
It is not currently clear whether the accused teacher has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Milwaukee Police Department had no additional updates to share when contacted by Us about the case.
