A teacher in South Carolina has been arrested after authorities had to search her home in an attempt to find a teen runaway.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department confirmed in a statement to Us Weekly that Yshay Fuller was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, obstructing justice and neglect by a legal guardian on Tuesday, May 19.

Fuller, 33, was charged after police received a call about a minor, who was listed as a runaway, being held at the teacher’s home. While police reported to the residence to look for the teen, they were unable to find the minor at the time of the search.

An investigation was launched into the matter, and it was determined that Fuller was not forthcoming with information she knew about the runaway juvenile. The teen had already been missing for two days at the time police searched Fuller’s home.

Authorities have not shared any other details about Fuller’s connection to the runaway as of time of publication.

In light of her arrest, Fuller was identified as a teacher at Caughman Road Elementary School. However, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said that her alleged crime is not in any way related to her working at the school.

It is not currently clear how Fuller knows the juvenile and if the teen has been found.

Richland County School District 1 issued a statement about Fuller’s arrest on Wednesday, May 20, confirming she worked at Caughman Road Elementary School and was taken into custody on May 19.

“We were informed that the matter is not related to the school,” the statement, which was obtained by WIS, continued. “Caughman Road parents were notified. Questions about the arrest and the charges should be directed to the Sheriff’s Department.”

Following her arrest, Fuller was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. She has since been released on a $20,000 bond. She is scheduled to return to court on July 31 at 10 a.m.

It is not currently clear if Fuller has entered a plea or retained legal counsel in light of the charges. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department told Us that they have no additional information to share about the case as of time of publication.

After the school was notified about Fuller’s arrest, parents spoke to News 19 about the situation.

“Immediately my husband and I called our children in and asked them if they had seen police at the school or if they knew anything about it, and they immediately said, ‘Yes we saw the police officers and one of the teachers was arrested,'” one parent, who asked to remain anonymous, said.
