Winnebago County Jail

A teacher in Wisconsin has been arrested after she allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy.

Keisha Stuart made her first appearance in court on Tuesday, May 26, after she was charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child, exposing a child to harmful material and sexual misconduct by a school staff member.

Stuart’s cash bond was set at $40,000 cash bond and she is scheduled to return to court on June 4 for a status conference.

It is not currently clear if Stuart, 31, has entered a plea or retained legal counsel regarding the charges. The Menasha Police Department had no additional information to share about the case when contacted by Us Weekly.

“Investigations involving the safety and well-being of children are a top priority for the Menasha Police Department,” Lieutenant of Investigations Peter Sawyer said in a statement shared via Facebook. “Our department remains committed to protecting children, dedicating the necessary resources to these cases, and working with partner agencies to investigate those who seek to exploit vulnerable individuals.”

Authorities became aware of the allegations against Stuart when the school found a letter that the teacher gave to the teenager. While it has not been revealed what the letter said, the letter raised suspicions and the school quickly contacted police to report their findings, according to a criminal complaint viewed by Fox 11.

While speaking to authorities, the boy “confirmed that the relationship with his teacher became inappropriate.” Authorities also looked through the boy’s phone, where they found a video of Stuart removing her clothing, per the complaint. The boy also described various sex acts that he and Staurt allegedly engaged in.

Stuart declined to comment about the charges at the time of her arrest, according to the complaint.

The Menasha Police Department said in the Facebook statement that Stuart worked at Fundamentals School at the time of her arrest, which is a private school and is not part of the Menasha Joint School District.

According to the Fundamentals LLC Facebook page, the school “offers programming for youth in need of support due to emotional, behavioral or mental health challenges that occur in school, at home or in the community.”

An investigation into the case remains ongoing. “Due to the active and sensitive nature of this investigation, no additional information will be released at this time,” police said in the Facebook statement.

The Menasha Police Department is working with the Fox Crossing Police Department amid the investigation.
