A teacher in Alabama was arrested after he allegedly sold pills to a student in his classroom.
Langston Carter was arrested on Thursday, October 22, after officers with the Montgomery Police Department were called to L.E.A.D. Academy in Montgomery, Alabama, according to WSFA.
School administrators learned of the situation when a student was found with two pills containing five milligrams of oxycodone hydrochloride and 325 milligrams of acetaminophen. Police were then called to the scene, and the student told officers that he got the pills from Carter, 30, who was his teacher.
The student claimed that Carter offered to sell him the pills on multiple occasions, and he eventually bought them for $10. Carter allegedly instructed the student to send the money to his girlfriend’s Cash App account. However, the student asked one of his classmates to send the money because he didn’t have a Cash App account of his own.
Investigators then verified that the transaction took place, according to court filings viewed by the outlet.
After the student paid Carter, the teacher allegedly gave him the pills in his classroom.
L.E.A.D. Academy confirmed that students were placed on lockdown on Thursday afternoon after the Montgomery Police Department asked them to do so “to ensure integrity of the investigation.”
After officers were informed of the accusations, a K-9 officer conducted an open-air sniff outside of Carter’s vehicle. The K-9 was able to detect an odor, and police opened the trunk and found a sling-style bag that contained 6.9 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, empty plastic bags, 18.9 grams of mushroom-infused gummies, nineteen 5-milligram oxycodone hydrochloride and 325-milligram acetaminophen pills, a loaded Beretta 9 mm handgun and other narcotics-related items.
The school confirmed on Friday, October 23, that Carter has been fired in light of his arrest.
Carter is facing multiple felony charges, including possession of a firearm on school property, two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and first-degree possession of marijuana.
He is currently being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $300,000 bond.
It is not currently clear if Carter has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Montgomery Police Department did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding updates in the case.
The investigation into Carter’s alleged crimes remains ongoing, and it’s not currently clear if police believe he has sold drugs to other students on previous occasions.
