A former substitute teacher in Indiana has pleaded guilty and learned her fate after she was accused of sending nude photos to a 14-year-old middle school student.
Cassidy Carter pleaded guilty to one count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury and was sentenced to two years in jail, according to court records viewed by FOX19. She had already received two days of jail credit at the time of her sentencing.
Carter was also originally charged with child solicitation after she was accused of sending nude photos of herself to the student while she was working as a substitute teacher for the South Dearborn School Corporation, according to FOX19.
Dearborn County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens told the outlet the child solicitation charge was dropped because the victim had moved out of the area and did not want to be involved in the case.
Carter, who was 21 years old at the time of the incident, reportedly added the student as a friend on Snapchat in November 2023, per the outlet. After she sent the victim disturbing messages, he told a school resource officer about the alleged messages one month later on December 1, 2023. The school resource officer then told the principal about the allegations, who reported their findings to police.
An investigation was then launched into the allegations, and the teen told investigators that Carter sent him nude photos of herself every time she took a shower. He added that the photos were often sent late at night. Additionally, the victim said that Carter told him she was in love with him.
Investigators eventually looked through the student’s phone, where they found multiple messages and nude photographs that Carter had sent, according to court records viewed by the outlet.
Prior to her arrest, Carter began working as a substitute teacher at South Dearborn Middle School in early September 2023. Her time within the district did not last long and she was last employed by the school in mid-November 2023, according to court documents obtained by WLWT.
It is not clear why she stopped working for the school, as the student had not yet reported his experience at the time of her last day teaching at Dearborn Middle School. It is also not currently known if she moved on to working at another school before she was arrested.
