The aftermath of Michelle Hadley’s romance with ex Ian Diaz was broken down in Netflix’s July 2026 documentary A Toxic Love Story. What started as a seemingly typical breakup turned into a nightmare when Diaz and his new wife, Angela Diaz, accused Hadley of stalking and harassing them.
Hadley was arrested and spent 88 days in jail before it was revealed that the Diazes framed her. Following her release, Hadley sued the city of Anaheim for how they handled the investigation. She has mostly lived a private life, though appeared in A Toxic Love Story to share her experience.

Where Is Michelle Hadley Now?
At the time the Diazes were framing her, Hadley was in the process of getting her MBA from Chapman University.
She said in the documentary that she eventually went back to school, as well as focused her energy on work and dating.
Hadley is a single mom, and she gave birth to her daughter on the same day Diaz was finally convicted for his involvement in the plot.
“Raising this beautiful little girl is my fairy tale ending,” Hadley said of motherhood in the documentary.
What Happened to Michelle Hadley?
Hadley and Ian met online in 2013 and they began a whirlwind romance, and the couple even bought a condo together. The home had a $500,000 mortgage, and Hadley paid for the $15,000 down payment.
After they broke up in August 2015, Ian married Angela months later in February 2016.
The new couple claimed that they started receiving threatening emails from an anonymous account named “Lilithistruth” in May 2016, and they originally claimed that the messages were coming from Hadley.
The newlyweds called 911 twice before Hadley was ultimately arrested. The first time they called 911 was on June 13, 2016, where they insisted that Hadley was behind the threatening messages.
Angela called 911 a second time on June 24, 2016, and claimed that a man came to their home and tried to rape her in the garage. When police arrived at the residence, they found Angela with her shirt torn and red marks covering her body.
Hadley was arrested in June 2016 and charged with felony counts of attempted forcible rape and stalking. However, an investigation later revealed that Ian and Angela framed Hadley so that she would give up her half of the condo she shared with Ian.
It was discovered that Ian and Anglea were responsible for the messages after digital investigators confirmed that the “Lilithistruth” accounts were created by Angela. They had created multiple online accounts in Hadley’s name, and they even posted “rape fantasy” ads on Craigslist that resulted in several men coming to their home in elaborate “hoax sexual assault” setups. Additionally, investigators determined that the device logs and IP addresses did not line up with the version of events that the Diazes were telling police.
All of the charges against Hadley were dropped in January 2017, while Angela was arrested that same month. Angela pleaded guilty to 10 felony counts in October 2017 and she was sentenced to serve five years in prison.
Angela and Ian have since divorced.
It took four more years for Ian to be arrested on federal charges of cyberstalking, conspiracy to commit cyberstalking and perjury in May 2021. He was eventually found guilty on all counts and was sentenced to serve 10 years and one month in prison.
Michelle Hadley Sued the City of Anaheim After Her Charges Were Dropped
In 2018, Hadley sued the city of Anaheim and four police officers after she claimed they poorly handled the investigation, saying they accused her of horrendous crimes based on emails that were clearly doctored.
Hadley accepted an undisclosed settlement from the city of Anaheim in April 2021.
