A Texas woman has been arrested in connection to her husband’s murder cold case, 24 years after he died.

The Frisco Police Department confirmed in a press release on Monday, April 20, that Lisa Honrud was arrested that same day on a murder warrant connected to the death of her late husband, Frank Weiss.

Weiss was found dead near Lake Lewisville in Texas in 2002. He was married to Honrud, 55, at the time of his death, and he lived in the city of Plano.

More than two decades after his death, Frisco investigators were able to use “advancements in investigative techniques, modern technology and new information from a key witness” in order to obtain a warrant for Honrud’s arrest.

“We are thankful for our investigators who have put countless hours into this case, as well as the Waxahachie Police Department for their assistance with this arrest. For 24 years, the Weiss family has waited for answers,” Police Chief David Shilson said in a statement. “Today’s arrest is an important step toward justice, and we will continue working until everyone involved is held accountable.”

Weiss’ daughter, Carla, was 22 years old when her father died. Following Honrud’s arrest, Carla, now 44, admitted she has mixed feelings about the situation.

“Hope is a funny thing. Hope has a way of strangling you, and so, at some point, I have probably accepted that there will never be an answer,” she told Fox 4. “But acceptance doesn’t kill. I dreamed of there being an answer, but I didn’t expect one.”

She added that she was “so appreciative and grateful” that an arrest has been made, though admitted she doesn’t believe Honrud acted on her own. Carla said that her dad was a large man and she thought it would take at least two people to commit his killing.

Sgt. Ryan Thomas with the Frisco Police Department also spoke to the outlet about the major breakthrough in the investigation.

“Wounds, they don’t fully heal. Families don’t get the closure that they need, and law enforcement is just going to continue to get better at what they do,” he said. “For those who you know think they’re off scot-free, you know, I’d just say, look over your shoulder.”
