A woman in Milwaukee was arrested after she allegedly posed as a substitute teacher because she was “bored.”
Amy Jones was charged with five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions and one count of impersonating a public employee on Sunday, October 4, following an incident that took place at Milwaukee Public Schools’ Rufus King International High School on September 24.
Jones, 23, allegedly scouted the school, where she was once a student, one week before the incident. She managed to get into the school by blending in with students, according to the criminal complaint viewed by Fox 6, and she reportedly overheard faculty discussing a substitute teaching agency during her first visit.
She returned to the school on September 24 when eight teachers were absent and seven substitutes were on staff. Principal Doreen Badillo said that Jones “got lucky because there happened to be an unfilled position” and she successfully signed in as a substitute teacher, according to Fox 6.
Jones then reported to a classroom that was previously set up by a different teacher. The teacher stayed with Jones for 20 minutes, and when they left, Jones allegedly asked the students whether anyone had marijuana or a vape, according to Law & Crime. Jones also reportedly told the class that they were “so f***ing lame and annoying.”
Jones allegedly organized students by race and gender, and used racial slurs and profanities. She allegedly told a student to “shut the f*** up” and “dissed” kids for their weight, race, physical appearance and financial circumstances.
Additionally, Jones bragged about “having felonies and being OK with going to jail,” per Law & Crime.
After her comments made the students “uncomfortable,” they reported her to the faculty. Badillo then called the substitute teacher agency, and she quickly learned that Jones was not employed by them.
Authorities reported to the school, and Jones was escorted out. While speaking to officers, Jones allegedly said she had posed as a teacher because “she was bored” and that she was “just wanted to ‘f*** around.’” Jones also reportedly added that she hates children.
Following Jones’ arrest, Badillo issued a statement to the school’s students and parents stating that the Milwaukee Police Department school resource officers and the district’s Title IX coordinator had been alerted. She also confirmed that the district was looking into the incident in its own investigation.
It is not currently clear whether Jones has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following her arrest. The Milwaukee Police Department did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment.
