‘Bachelorette’ Villain Chad Johnson Defends Himself: ‘I’m Not Violent’

Getting a bad rap. Chad Johnson, who has been labeled the villain on JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette, took to Instagram to defend himself over the show’s second episode on Monday, May 30, which showed him threatening fellow contestant and marine Alex Woytkiw

“Keep that up, you’re gonna lose your damn teeth,” he yelled after Alex confronted him about cutting off other guys’ conversations with JoJo.

Before the episode aired, the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram: “Finally I’ll get some alone time with @joelle_fletcher and be able to be myself. You will see the amazing connection we have and hopefully, after this #bachelormonday y’all will understand that I’m not violent, but I will stand up for myself, being as I, like everyone else, do not like being harassed and bullied.”

Chad’s fellow contestants clearly dislike him for his strange behavior and outspoken comments. The luxury real estate agent worked out at the Bachelor mansion by attaching a suitcase to his belt and doing pull-ups on the beams of the house, and the other men constantly pointed out the insane amount of meat he was eating at a cocktail party.

During a group date at ESPN where the men gave JoJo mock proposals, Chad told her, “You need me to tell you all the things I love about you? Starting off a little naggy here,” which the other men found extremely disrespectful. Later in the outing, when all the guys were asked which contestant they like the least, every single man named him without hesitation. In the end, Chad still placed second in the “power rankings” on the group date, upsetting almost everyone in the house.

However, viewers — and JoJo — saw a softer side of Chad too when he explained that he hasn’t had a serious relationship in several years because he was taking care of his sick mother, who recently passed away. He also opened up about the topic on Instagram on Tuesday, May 31. Alongside a photo of him with his mother and sister, he wrote:

“For 7 years I watched my mother slowly die from cancer. Over the last 3 she got much worse and I decided to spend all of my time that I wasn’t working, at her house taking care of her and generally spending time with her. She was all alone since her divorce from my father. My sister and I were all that she had. So I have not had a relationship in a very long time because I was busy trying to make sure my mother lived out her final years in comfort and surrounded by family. I still miss her everyday… She was my best friend and the person I told everything to.”

The Bachelorette airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
