Off Campus star Belmont Cameli answered some burning questions about his season 2 raise — and how long the show could run for after some significant book changes.
During a joint interview with NHL player Macklin Celebrini for The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, September 10, Cameli, 28, was asked whether he had gotten “a bump from season 1 to season 2” of the hit Prime Video show.
“Yeah. When you sign an X amount of years for a TV show, there’s one baked in there,” he revealed. “It’s commonplace to renegotiate at a certain point.”
Cameli also hinted at plans for Off Campus as a franchise, saying, “My business answer is Amazon optioned all the books a couple of years ago. There are five books in the first [series]. There are another four [in the second series]. In success, it could run for a long time. We all hope so.”
Based on the Off-Campus book series by Elle Kennedy, the TV adaptation follows an elite ice hockey team — and the women in their lives. Season 1, which premiered in May, was centered on Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett’s (Cameli) love story.
Going off Kennedy’s book order, Logan’s (Antonio Cipriano) story was expected to be next, then Dean’s (Stephen Kalyn) before Tucker’s (Jalen Thomas Brooks) turn. News broke, however, that Dean and Allie (Mika Abdalla) would be leading season 2 in a shakeup.
“Even though we do tease Dean and Allie a lot earlier than people expect, you are still left wanting a lot more,” Abdalla, 26, exclusively told Us in May. “And that’s something I’m really excited about. You just want to see more.”
Abdalla explained that the show wanted to “stay true to a lot” of Allie and Dean’s love story.
“Allie and Hannah’s story lines are so connected to one another that it just made a lot of sense to touch on that this season,” she said about the extended focus on Allie and Dean throughout season 1. “All the books, they build off of each other and they’re all connected. It didn’t really make sense to not include certain elements from the other books in this season.”
Before Prime Video announced the next leads in May, Bright, 19, and Cameli revealed whether they planned to return in future seasons.
“I totally understand your concern,” Cameli exclusively told Us about each season of the show being focused on a different fictional couple. “We will be along for the ride the whole time.”
Bright confirmed the plan is for them to be “sticking” around before Cameli added, “We’re excited to see what season 2 holds for [us].”
