Of all the things Carmen Electra has experienced, she’s not afraid to admit that saying “yes” to Nation’s Dumbest is far from her silliest life choice.
“I could definitely say marrying Dennis Rodman could have been, like, not the best choice,” Electra, 54, exclusively shared with Us on Tuesday, August 4, when promoting the Fox reality show. “I mean, it was just difficult because he had people working for him that at that time were really weird, and they assumed that everyone was out for his money. And I had my own money. I wasn’t out for Dennis Rodman’s money.”
Electra and Rodman, 65, enjoyed a whirlwind romance in the late ‘90s that led to a spontaneous Las Vegas marriage in November 1998. Their divorce was finalized a year later.
“By that time, I had been working with MTV, Baywatch. … I was working a lot. I was living in a really nice condo in Beverly Hills at the time that I paid for,” Electra recalled. “Independent queen. I believe in that. I think that honestly, like, you’ve got to look at life that way.”
When Electra signed up for Nation’s Dumbest, she hoped to use her street smarts to surprise viewers and prove she’s more than just a pretty face.
“I didn’t study in school. I wasn’t paying attention,” Electra said. “I was not paying attention in school at all. … I was into my dance classes because I went to a performing arts school. I was in ballet and that stuff. It was fun for me. I did really good.”
Another subject Electra said she did well in was sex ed.
“I got an A+ in that one, but other than that, like, it was a struggle,” she said with a laugh. “It was a real struggle.”
Ultimately, the Baywatch alum believed she had an advantage when competing on Nation’s Dumbest — one born out of her innate desire to be the best.
“I had no idea so many people would love me on the show,” she shared. “I hear, like, ‘Oh my god, my mom loves you’ or, ‘You’re so funny.’ I had no idea I was going to get this kind of response.”
Fox’s new reality competition show features celebrity contestants as they face a series of school-themed challenges. The goal is to avoid last place and the unwanted title of “Nation’s Dumbest.”
Hosted by Jack Whitehall, the series has already seen the departures of singer Elle King and Dr. Drew Pinsky.
