CBS Boss: I “Stand Behind” The Good Wife’s CGI Alicia-Kalinda Scene

Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi's final scene in The Good Wife
CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler called the CGI'd Alicia-Kalinda scene from The Good Wife finale a "satisfying ending."

Still making waves! CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler addressed The Good Wife's controversial Season 6 finale scene — which saw Julianna Margulies' Alicia Florrick and Archie Panjabi's Kalinda Sharma share the screen together for the first time in more than a year, thanks to the magic of CGI — while talking to reporters at the Television Critics Association on Monday, Aug. 10.

"I'm not gonna reveal movie magic," she said of the scene, which Us Weekly confirmed in May was completed via green screen — all so the reportedly feuding actresses did not have to work together. "Bottom line is, the ending of the show was a very satisfying ending for the relationship between those two characters. I stand behind how Robert and Michelle King produced their show."

The history-making scene came as the Emmy-winning Panjabi exited the series after six years hoping to star in a future series of her own via a new development deal with 20th Century Fox TV.

And although it aired nearly three months ago, Tassler was amused by the question. "I just love that you're so passionate about this," she said. "Quite frankly it's a testament to your support, your enthusiasm for the show."

As for how the veteran series will continue without the fan-favorite investigator — and after a season that got a lukewarm reaction from audiences — Tassler said she's excited by what executive producers Robert and Michelle King have planned for Season 7.

"I feel that the show still has raised the bar in terms of the quality of storytelling," she said, "and the year that Robert and Michelle have planned is as exciting as all the previous years — even more so."

Season 7 will see Jeffrey Dean Morgan join the series as a new regular character, playing an investigator with whom Alicia will work as she tries to start yet another new law firm. Margo Martindale is recurring as a strategist working on Peter Florrick's (Chris Noth) presidential campagin, and Cush Jumbo is joining the cast as lawyer Lucca Quinn.

The Good Wife returns Sunday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
